Released today by Frontier Developments is a trailer for its Close Quarter Combat (CQC) Championships on virtual reality (VR) compatible space simulation videogame Elite: Dangerous. The CQC Championships, which is available now pits players against each other in the ultimate space gladiatorial contest.
Players can equip their spacecraft with unique loadouts and compete in Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Capture The Flag gametypes in custom-built arenas, that will support up to twelve players at launch. The CQC Championship will be available for PC, Mac and Xbox One.
As well as the CQC, the studio is also releasing its Horizons expansion pack which will be available soon.
Elite: Dangerous is soon to add support for the HTC Vive, but the developers support for the Oculus Rift is currently in limbo. The title has previously supported the head-mounted display (HMD), but this integration has halted while Oculus VR continues to update its software development kits (SDK). The videogame will support SDK’s prior to 0.7, for those that haven’t yet upgraded. Oculus VR’s SDK 1.0 is targeted for release in December 2015, so there’s a possibility support may be updated for that launch.
